Hello, my name is Daniel De Bord, and I am a fine art nature photographer. My passion is to capture the natural world in all its beauty and present it to you as a personal gift to you from heaven. There are times when I am left speechless by what I have seen and captured on film, knowing full well that I am shooting beyond my ability and reaching into the transcendent. Rather than using every photo editing technique to manipulate a scene so that it is more than “perfect,” I choose to present nature to you in an artistic and more truthful manner. My approach is more akin to Ansel Adams, who said, “Some photographers take reality… and impose the domination of their own thought and spirit. Others come before reality more tenderly and a photograph to them is an instrument of love and revelation.” My hope is that through these images you continuously experience the gifts that nature bestows to those who embrace her.

“it's magical how nature can soothe you, heal you, and put your senses back in order.”

Daniel De Bord's Bio

Daniel got his start in photography in 2003, when he took an introductory course on photography from the Seattle Mountaineers, where he learned the fundamentals. He took several thousand pictures of slide film in his very first year of photography. Later, he took a course in photography from Kate Wool at the University of Alaska Fairbanks (UAF), where he learned to develop his own film and use techniques that the old masters used like dodging and burning. Daniel didn’t always have an interest in nature, as he grew up a city kid in Seattle. However, that all changed for him in his early 20’s when a friend invited him on a camping trip where he had the time of his life exploring nature. From that time on, he could not get enough of the outdoors and eventually decided he wanted a career in nature. He said goodbye to friends and family in Seattle and went off on a grand adventure to Alaska to live, study, work, and play in the wilderness. To satisfy his desire to understand nature, he obtained a Wildlife Biology degree from UAF, where he met his wife Ketsiri (Dee), who was working on a graduate degree. Together, with the help of Daniel’s dad, they built their cabin in the woods and learned to live close to the earth. All these experiences helped Daniel to unlock the secrets of nature and capture that on film and now digitally.

“People don’t have to head for the woods to enjoy nature’s restorative effects. Even a glimpse of nature from a window helps.”
